Bromelain and Papain are naturally occurring enzymes used for aiding digestion, anti-inflammatory/anti-arthritic effects, as well as for effective sinus relief. Bromelain is from the stem of the pineapple plant and papain is from the fruit of the papaya.
Our natural fruit enzymes are in a category called proteolytic (protein degrading) enzymes. They aid digestion by breaking down protein and are used for gas, bloating and indigestion.
Bromelain enzymes have been shown to reduce and eliminate swelling and inflammation in soft tissues and joints. Studies have shown that when enzymes were administered before a sports injury occurred, the healing time was much faster. There was less bruising and cuts took half the time to heal. Papain is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of bronchial asthma and bronchitis.
Using natural enzymes may give effective relief for sufferers of sinus problems. Sinus pain is increased by swelling of the sinus membranes or pressure on the membranes. The anti-inflammatory action of the enzymes is useful here.
